Moving Forward

It’s no surprise that those who have been directly affected by Flint’s water crisis — who drank lead- contaminated municipal water and gave it to their children — feel afraid, betrayed and more than a little angry.
The best way to cope with a crisis is with action. You did not cause the problems, but you have the power to do something about them. This is the time to pull together as a family and as a community.

You may be grieving, but don’t let that prevent you from going forward.
You may be angry, but pointing fingers or ranting without action won’t relieve your anger.
Now is the time to think about what actions you can take, not only as an individual but also as a group, to change the future. There is power in a group. There is power in

reaching out to help others and discuss options.
You have the power to make changes that will impact your future.
Yes, bad things happen to good people. But pulling together as a community can create a better, happier and healthier future. There is power in a group. There is power in reaching out to help others and discuss options.

Yes, bad things happen to good people. But pulling together as a community can create a better, happier and healthier future.

What can you do? There are always choices in every situation.

HERE ARE SOME ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE TO HELP YOU FEEL MORE IN CONTROL:

  • Make sure your children are not afraid. it is important that they know you will continue to do your best to take care of them.
  • Participate in the efforts to get clean water into your community. you can start a campaign to ask others for help, even if they are in other cities or states.
  • Spread the word. the more people who know about what happened, the more help you may receive.
  • Don’t let the situation be hidden. Participate in the political process to ensure people are held accountable. your voices can change what happens now.
  • Learn about foods and vitamins that can help remove lead from your body and incorporate that knowledge into your daily diet.
  • Help start support groups in your community, so you and your neighbors have a place to share your pain and confusion.
