An emergency is a serious medical condition or symptom (including severe pain) caused by an Injury or sickness, or mental illness, which arises suddenly and requires immediate care and treatment to avoid disability or death.

WHEN SHOULD YOU GO TO THE ER?
• Extreme shortness of breath
• Heavy bleeding that continues for over 10 minutes.
• Poisoning
• Seizures or loss of consciousness
• Head or major organ injuries
• Coughing or vomiting blood
• Homicidal or suicidal feelings
• In these cases do not hesitate to call 911 and get emergency help.
NON-EMERGENCY
If possible visit your Primary Care Physician (your Patient-Centered Medical Home) first for unexpected non-planned issues, they have a much better handle on your health and lifestyle and are therefore much better equipped to make recommendations that keep you healthy and out of the emergency room.
