Classic Fox Salutes Our Troops

For the men and women serving in the military, especially those deployed overseas, being separated from their homes and families is a lonely business.
And for those of us at home? It may be hard to admit, but it can be easy to forget about the thousands of soldiers who have dedicated this time in their lives to national service.
Well, one local radio station wants to flip that saying on its head. 103.9 The Fox has partnered with several local sponsors to send a big mid-Michigan shout-out to service members overseas.“We want to give kudos to the men and women of the armed forces and say ‘thank you’ for your service,” said Mike Scott, 103.9 the Fox’s Program Director.
Those thank-yous will be delivered in the form of a huge “Salute the Troops” banner bearing the signatures of hundreds — if not thousands — of local residents sharing their gratitude and positive messages for the troops.
The 8-foot-by-15-foot banner’s primary sponsor is UAW Local 599, Region 1-D, as well as UAW veterans.
Major sponsors include Icon Mortgage in Mundy Township, Frankenmuth Brewery in Frankenmuth, Green Grow
in Mt. Morris, and Graphics Galore in Genesee. 103.9 The Fox will
be making station appearances along with the banner at various
locations throughout
the area during February and March. The station will post the appearances
on its website
www.classicfox.com
to invite the public to come to the events and sign the
banner.
The goal of “Salute the Troops” is to “let our service members know they’re not forgotten, and that we salute their efforts for the sacrifices they make day in and day out,” Scott said.
When the banner is filled, it will be shipped to troops overseas
— its final destination hasn’t been determined — to let members
of the military know that they’re remembered and that their service is appreciated.
