THE 2016 WINNER FOR 12 DAYS OF GIVING IS COMMUNITIES FIRST
located in downtown Flint. With the votes of Facebook fans they received a $500 donation from Kudos magazine. The mission of Communities First, Inc. is to promote and provide an improved quality of life for residents of distressed communities through economic development and affordable housing solutions.Founded in 2010 by Glenn and Essence Wilson, Communities First, Inc. has grown extensively in just a few short years. As Flint natives who are passionate about their hometown, it only made
sense to focus their efforts on the Flint area. The combination of their skills with those of a dedicated board of directors has allowed Communities First, Inc. to do great work in the Flint community.
“We are driven to do this work because we believe that Flint is worthy of investment. Both Essence and I (co-founders) are Flint natives who love the city. We wanted to be a part of the solution for the city rather than abandoning it and moving elsewhere. Our focus is on making life better for Flint residents”, said Glenn Wilson, President.
The first project that the organization took on was the Oak Street Senior Apartments, formerly known as Oak School in Flint, Michigan. This $5.1 million project has opened the doors for future projects and is a great starting point for Communities First, Inc.
